For our 2011 charity campaign, LDD have committed to raising funds for two very worthy causes - Lupus UK and Haven House Children's Hospice. We have set ourselves a number of challenges (further details below) and have enlisted colleagues, friends and clients to take part and assist in reaching, and hopefully exceeding, our target of £50,000.00. Charities:

LUPUS UK is the only national charity supporting people with the immune system illness Lupus. It has a number of groups throughout the UK and supports over 6,000 members through these groups. It also provides funding for medical research into this life threatening and debilitating illness.

HAVEN HOUSE CHILDREN'S HOSPICE is a special place for special children. We care for children and young people between the ages of birth to 19 who have life-limiting conditions and who are unlikely to reach adulthood. We help families by providing a range of services that include day, short break and end of life care, together with therapeutic play in the community, including stimulating play sessions with our play specialist. Families can find the support they need when they need it most at no cost to themselves. Haven House Children's Hospice is a charity looking after children and their families in Central and North East London and West Essex.

Events:

London to Brighton Bike Ride
Starting in London and finishing on the Brighton seafront, this challenging ride covers a total of 54 miles. With our ever expanding group of eager cyclists including several of LDD's finest and our brightest and bravest friends and clients, we are hoping to set records for our cycling and our fundraising.

Kilimanjaro Trek
Rising 19,340 feet above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the world's highest free-standing mountain. Comprising 3 volcanoes and supporting eco-zones ranging from rainforest to glacier, Courtney Welsh and Graham Ball will face a daunting physical challenge as well as battling altitude sickness, extreme weather conditions and each other to reach the summit and raise mountains of cash for our charities.

Annual Golf Day
In association with The Pink Tie Club, this year's charity golf day will be held at Brocket Hall Golf Club and will be attended by the great, the good and the generous from all walks of the construction industry. With some fantastic golf, food and entertainment on offer, this has become one of the most popular events of the year.

The Golf-a-thon
This unique challenge will see our MD, Ziggy Seagroatt and Lee Rowswell of GKR Scaffolding attempt to play 72 holes of golf in 12 hours on one of the UK's most challenging courses. With no buggies allowed and the unpredictable English weather playing its part, this will be a test of both physical and mental endurance as well as golfing ability.
